Fenbendazole is considered one of the safer dewormers in veterinary use, with a wide margin between an effective dose and a harmful one. Still, safe use comes down to the right product, the right species, and the right dose.
Most animals tolerate fenbendazole with no trouble at all. When effects do occur, they're usually mild and short-lived:
Rarely, an animal may have an allergic-type reaction — facial swelling, hives, or severe digestive upset. If you see anything like that, stop and contact your veterinarian.

Fenbendazole's wide safety margin means modest overdoses are often tolerated, but that is not a reason to be casual about dosing. If your animal gets significantly more than the labeled amount, or you're unsure, call your veterinarian or an animal poison control line for guidance.
Fenbendazole has relatively few significant interactions, but always tell your veterinarian about every medication and supplement your animal is taking. Some combinations (for example, with certain other antiparasitic or worming agents) are best coordinated by a professional.
